Fire Under the Ash 2
Fire Under the Ash 2, Acrylic on canvas, resin, 28x20x2 inches, 2024
“Fire under the Ash” series of work draw inspiration from the frequent volcanic eruptions in Iceland in 2024. This piece portrays a scene of tranquility with a volcano hidden beneath the sea, accumulating an unpredictable force like an unseen undercurrent. Yini seeks to capture this natural phenomenons seemingly calm surface—still and mirror-like, with no waves or wind—while intense volcanic energy builds below. Molten lava moves slowly along the seabed, as if preparing for a sudden transformation. Through the contrast between serenity and latent power, the artwork reflects humanitys ignorance of and reverence for nature’s forces, echoing the overlooked extreme moments in our lives.
Artist Statement: My creative journey centers on the intricate dialogue between humanity and the natural world. With each step, I embrace the fluidity of water, the shifts in weather, and the undulating contours of the land beneath my feet, gathering stones, pine needles, branches, and moss along the way—each revealing its uniqueness upon closer inspection. My work originates in exploring distant landscapes and cultures, a quest to discover my own essence within nature’s mysteries. I bridge two-dimensional and three-dimensional expression, weaving painting, printmaking, sculpture, and photography into a tapestry of mediums where each stroke and form subtly explores the elusive interplay between perception and reality. Rooted in the craft of printmaking, my work delves into themes of “reproduction” and “media transformation.” This exploration, combined with a deep respect for nature, shapes a unique perspective and visual language. My creations distill the vast timelines of natural wonders, inviting a convergence of light and texture that blurs the boundaries between viewer and landscape. This artistic intervention disrupts nature’s rhythm, leaving a lasting imprint on its ethereal canvas.
