Take Me Back Where I Came From
Take Me Back Where I Came From, 2024, oil on canvas, 36 x 24 inches.
“Take Me Back Where I Came From” captures a transitional moment in time between a woman and three goldfish who have all come to a sort of “crossroads” at the top of the stairs. Though the atmosphere of the scene is ambiguous, the ethereal movement of the goldfish implies the presence and weight of the water around them. Different portals lead to different paths and outcomes as “Take Me Back Where I Came From” explores a scene of decisions, changes, and the unknown.
Artist Statement: As an artist, surrealism provides me with the freedom to create illusions and circumstances that would otherwise never exist. Whether I’m working with installation art, collage, or painting, I intend to create an environment where people can enjoy something ridiculous or unusual and see their surroundings through a different perspective. Much of my work is inspired by the past and centres around the theme of “anemoia”, which refers to a nostalgia for a time or place that one has never known. Through references to time, space, technology, and alternate universes, I aim to meld the past and present while creating unexplained scenes that may be occurring outside of our realm.
